Chronic constipation


It is a condition of passage of small and hard stool with pain and straining during defaecation. It is usually chronic in nature.

Causes:-

(a)Starvation or underfeeding

(b)Excessive drug habit i.e., frequent use of strong purgatives.

(c)Insufficient intake of water.

(d)Excessive use of strong tea, smoking, opium.

(e)High protein content in diet.

(f)Emotional upsets.

(g)Congenital anal stenosis.

(h)Hirschsprung's disease.

Clinical features:-

(a)Dirty looks of tongue.

(b)Headache or heaviness of head.

(c)Halitosis.

(d)Heaviness of hypogastrium

(e)Insomnia.

(f)General weakness.

(g)Mental irritability.

(h)No stool within two days or very small and hard stool frequently with much anal pain.

Treatment:-

After proper case-taking, examination and the underlying cause should be diagnosed properly and the treatment starts.

Homoeopathic medicines:-

Here I am giving the name of some homoeopathic medicines which are usually prescribed in the case of this disease according to the physical signs and symptoms as usually observed in the case of this disease. However it must be borne in our mind that apart from the physical symptoms there are also some mental symptoms associated with this disease for which I have not mentioned any medicine here. Many medicines come here after individualisation of the patient, which are as follows:-

Aesculus hippocastanum,

Arnica montana,

Bryonia alba,

Calcarea carbonica,

Graphites,

Nux Vomica etc.

Yogapathic chart:-

Many asanas may be prescribed but among them the following asanas are more effective:- Uddiyan bandh, free hand exercises, bhujangasana, chakrasana, trikonasana, ardhachandrasana, etc.

The above asanas may be changed if the other associated diseases persist with the patient.

Meditation:-

Daily at bed time for 15 minutes.

Diet chart:-

Take plenty of water daily, take bread and cellulose food, take seasonal fruits, take green vegetables and leafy vegetables. Avoid butter and oily food, avoid rich and spicy food, avoid egg and muttton.
